Beginner's Guide to Using Instagram on a Computer Mac or PC

1 billion people use Instagram every month, and those users 'like' over 4 billion posts a day.

Signing up for and using Instagram can be a great way to stay in touch with and be a part of the lives of your friends and family.

It's also a way to learn about our planet. With photography being the main component of Instagram and 88% of those users being from countries other than the United States, this social media app is like having a window into the world.

But if you're just starting out, how can you find out all about using Instagram on a computer.

Keep scrolling for a beginner's guide on how to use Instagram on your PC or Mac.

Why Use Instagram on Your Computer?

There are many reasons why one might choose to start using Instagram on their computer.

For one, it looks bad to check your phone while you're at work, even if you have another screen in front of you. That being said, checking Instagram on your computer may be more inconspicuous than checking on your phone.

There are now ways to upload images from your computer, onto Instagram. And the photos you'll get to look at are much larger on your computer screen. If you're looking at someone's travel account, you might feel as though you're leafing through a magazine. If you're looking at photos of your grandkids, you'll feel like you're there with them as opposed to squinting at them on your phone.
Because your computer isn't a touch screen, you're much less likely to accidentally "like" a particular post.

Whatever your reason for deciding to use Instagram on your computer, you probably aren't alone. Now let's get started on how to use it!
How Do You Begin?

The first step is to go to the Instagram website. Underneath the "Sign Up" option, you'll see a link that says, "Have an account? Sign in."

Click there and enter your user name and password. They're the same ones you use to sign into the app on your phone.

Don't save your password unless you're using your own computer that no one else has access to. Congrats! You should be signed in at this point.

What Are Some Tricks for Making It Work like Your Phone?

Before there wasn't a way to watch Instagram stories on your computer, but now, if you install a Google Chrome extension called "Chrome IG Story," you'll be able to watch all of your Instagram stories.

There are apps that allow you to upload photos from your computer by moving them somewhere else first. That being said, there is now a trick that allows you to do so from your computer.

If you're on a Mac and using Safari, go to your Preferences. From there, select Advanced. Then you have to check the option to "Show development menu in menu bar," which is at the very bottom.

From there you'll have to open a private Safari window, go into the Develop section, and then click User Agent. From there you'll select Safari - ios 10 - iPhone. Doing all of this will allow you to use Safari as if it were your phone.

When you log into Instagram, you'll see the camera button at the bottom of the screen and you'll be able to click it and upload photos from your desktop.

How Else Can You Upload Photos?

Aside from the hack we outlined above, there are apps you can use that make uploading photos easier.

You can upload photos and videos by using Deskgram. There are options that allow you to trim your video, use filters, tag other accounts, and hashtag search. It doesn't, however, allow for videos if you're using Windows.

Uplet is a program that's for Macs only. It's an Instagram uploader that was designed exclusively for Macs. You can upload bulk photos and videos from your computer and send them to your Instagram account.

From there, all you have to do is download it and sign in with your Instagram account. The interface is easy to use because it's very similar to Instagram.

Hopper HQ is another program in which you may send photos from your computer to Instagram. Furthermore, with this program you can decide whether or not to send posts instantly or to schedule them for later.

It also has a feature called "Grid Planner" in which you'll be able to see how a bunch of future scheduled posts will look on your profile. This allows you to play around with your aesthetic seriously and to create something interesting and beautiful.

With Hopper, you can also choose to incorporate more than 1 social media account. It's a monthly subscription so your monthly fee will vary depending on how many social media accounts are attached.

Vivaldi is another option that works well on both Macs and PCs.
